As you step over the threshold of this whimsical, seaside thatch cottage, you will be transported to a bygone era, to a time when William of Orange landed in the South Devon port of Brixham, back in 1688. A bustling seaside town, also notable for its thriving fishing industry and picturesque harbour, Brixham is today a popular holiday destination with an impressive marina, fine selection of restaurants, cafes, galleries and boutiques and a spectacular coastline peppered with picturesque coves and sandy beaches. Rich in historical charm, Hearthstone East lies just a short distance from the harbour and town centre. Partially extended in more recent years, the quirky layout is arranged over a number of different levels, made up of an East and West Wing. There are four spacious bedrooms each one furnished with luxury deep mattresses and Egyptian cotton linen. The cottage has a family bathroom, a useful down stairs cloakroom and separate shower room, along with an en-suite shower (no WC) attached to the 1st floor Double bedroom. Tastefully furnished with a harmonious mix of contemporary and period pieces, the cottage offers all you require in terms of mod cons, including an Aga and electric oven & gas hob to cook. An ideal base for a family holiday by the coast or for those seeking to explore the region. A large cottage garden to the rear is a furnished with a picnic bench and patio table and chairs for guests to relax on sunny days and enjoy the mild South Devon climate. Private parking for 2 cars is behind the garden. Once a sizeable Devon longhouse, now divided into two, the cottage dates back to the 16th century, its fascinating history evident at every turn. Original ancient timbers that span the cottage offer up an insight into its past life. One enormous beam is thought to be the mast from a wrecked ship, most likely lured onto rocks by pirates to plunder its valuable cargo.The cottage has been home to many interesting residents. One, an American authoress Honore Morrow, whose books can be found in the cottage, was resident in the town at the same time as Agatha Christie, whose summer home Greenway is now open to the public and just 4 miles from the cottage. It is quite likely the two authoresses were good friends at the time.

Utility room with shower. 1 step down to WC. 6 Steps from kitchen to mid-level landing. Bathroom with bath, shower and WC. 5 Steps up to Bedroom 3 Twin and Bedroom 4 Twin. 5 Steps down from mid-level landing to lower hallway, entrance to Bedroom 1 Double (entrance also from lounge via 2 steps) and 10 Steps up to Bedroom 2 Double with en-suite shower only. To the rear there is a large cottage garden with patio area for seating. Other amenities: Free WiFi, Blue Ray Player, Expresso coffee machine, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, dartboard, assorted books and games, 2 travel cots, high chair. Bed linen, towels and central heating included. Fuel for first fire provided. One dog welcome at £20 each per week. Parking There is parking for 2 cars on a tarmac off-road driveway approx 50m from the property. Access from the parking to the cottage through the rear garden along a paved pathway and down 14 cobbled steps to the back door. Access to the front door from the roadside is 6 steps. Access without any steps can be made to the back kitchen door from a side gate. The property offers accommodation over 2 floors and has a mix of carpets, wood flooring and tiles. External and internal doors range from a width of 60cm to 80cm and height of 174cm to 180cm tall.
