East Devon Walks | Trinity Hill Nature Reserve, Near Axminster

Trinity Hill - Leisurely Walk – Distance 7.2km – Time roughly 2 1/2 hrs.

Whatever the time of year, this lovely circular walk is a great choice for families, dog walking or a relaxing Sunday afternoon walk in the sunshine.  Relatively flat with just a few gentle inclines, welly boots are highly recommended as during even the driest of spells, some of the routes are quite muddy!

The reserve is in the East Devon AONB and is a haven for heather with three different types that can be spotted along the routes – look out for Bell Heather, Ling and Cross-Leaved.  The area is important habitat for a whole host of wildlife and birds.  Enjoy the fabulous views across the Axe Valley towards the nearby town of Axminster.

For those who enjoy stargazing this is also an amazing location to sit and study the dark skies with little or no light pollution. The nature reserve car park as been awarded Dark Skies Discovery Site status – so take a picnic and enjoy the view!

Conveniently located just of the A35 – The Trinity Hill Forest is easy to access and there are two areas where you can park and walk from. Take a picnic and enjoy a leisurely afternoon, or if you prefer head back into Axminster to the River Cottage Canteen and enjoy a well- earned slice of cake and cup of tea!  Just along from the exit off the A35 is the Hunters Lodge if you are looking for pub lunch, or head into Lyme Regis just 3 miles away where you can sit on the harbour front and enjoy locally caught fish and chips and a local ale!
