The property

Lying deep amidst rolling hills and narrow country lanes, this pretty country cottage, is one of a small group that is lies near the picturesque village of Membury in a beautiful corner of the Blackdown Hills in East Devon. A perfect place for a relaxing holiday to recharge the batteries and escape the stresses of normal daily life or for exploring the scenic countryside with your four-legged friend.

Wagtail is a lovely dog friendly cottage that would suit a small family or couples on a walking holiday. Set in the immaculate manicured grounds, the cottage also has its own sheltered, enclosed garden accessed through French doors from the sitting room. Equipped with a garden table and chairs it provides the perfect spot to enjoy the peace and tranquility with a good book and a slice of apple cake from the local farm shop! The cottage has a comfortable and cosy sitting room with a electric woodburner style stove for added warmth on cooler evenings. There is a separate dining area and neat modern kitchen to one side with a useful utility/cloak room with WC. Two country style bedrooms can be found on the first floor, a spacious double with a cot and twin that can be joined for a king-size double if required. They share a family bathroom. Within the grounds there is a shared barbecue area and seating and there is plenty of parking on site. The area is a walkers paradise with bridleways and two country walks from the grounds. One will lead down through the valley to the picture perfect country village of Membury, the other down steps towards the panoramic views off Hill Common and on through the Yarty Copse filled with a carpet of bluebells in Springtime. Head into the market town of Axminster, where you will find a supermarket and a great weekly market on Thursdays. The original River Cottage Canteen can also be found in the town and just outside is River Cottage HQ. The popular coastal town of Lyme Regis can easily be reached. Wander along the sea front and stop for an ice cream, or take a barbecue for supper on the beach. For those that enjoy a spot of fishing, off the beach at Seaton is the place to catch Mackerel when they are in, and if you are unlucky and the fish aren't biting, then simply enjoy an evening walk along the coastal footpath that will take you to the pretty fishing village of Beer where you will find a good fish restaurant and a mackerel that the fisherman caught earlier! There is certainly much to do and explore in this fabulous region of Devon, however if all you wish to do is relax and unwind, then Wagtail makes a great choice for a countryside break at any time of year.

The lovely market town of Axminster has been made famous by the well-known organic shop and canteen in the area, which were introduced by TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Nestled in outstanding peaceful countryside, Axminster is certainly a place to relax and unwind. Famous for its carpets, which are often likened to Turkish examples, it is one of Devon’s prettiest smaller towns. Situated on the River Axe and within easy reach of both the West Dorset and East Devon Jurassic Coast, Axminster has many attractions, including plenty of privately owned shops, a weekly market and excellent old inns, with one dating back 100 years with its own resident ghost! With beautiful views on offer and the National Trust properties of Shute Barton and Loughwood Meeting House close by, Axminster is a must to visit.
