Property Description
Steeped in history this attractive stone barn dating back to the 1700's was once as its name suggests a grain barn, positioned within the grounds of a medieval manor house, in the heart of the Devon countryside. The open stone walls and original beams provide glimpses into the past life of this lovely cottage, that has undergone careful restoration by the owner. Traditionally furnished with colourful walls, pretty fabrics and red stone floors the cottage has a very homely atmosphere and would suit anyone seeking a relaxing peaceful escape from a hectic city lifestyle. The open plan lounge/diner leads through into a spacious country kitchen with Belfast sink and all the modern comforts such as dishwasher and fridge freezer. A utility room houses the boiler, washing machine, small tumble dryer and a useful wet-room with shower and WC. Upstairs two single bedrooms both have their own washbasins, care should be taken in the smaller of the bedrooms that has sloping eaves. The master double with a door leading to outside steps, benefits from a shower cubicle and washbasin. There is also a family bathroom on the first floor. Outside there is delightfully private walled garden where guests can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this serene location. For children there is a covered parking area ideal for ball games and 9 acres of fields to play, however children must be accompanied within the grounds at all times. The Granary is positioned along a peaceful country lane just a couple of miles from the village of Lewdown, set among the rolling hills of mid Devon. Dartmoor National Park is on the doorstep where many scenes from the epic film War Horse where taken. Centrally located this position is ideal for touring with Tavistock ten miles to the South, Okehampton to the North and Launceston to the West both of equi distance.The Cathedral city of Exeter is just over a thirty minute drive. There are a number of really good restaurants close by, The Harris Arms is a lovely country pub serving real Ale and local food and just over 2.5 miles, however if its for a special occasion then you may wish to try the Arundell Arms at Lifton that holds two AA rosettes for its fine dining cuisine. The nearest pub is the Blue Lion well within walking distance just over a mile away in the village. There is off road undercover parking for two cars.
